1. Dallas Willard and others emphasis the need to know our concept of Divinity...our concept of the Presence of God...
2.What are our core ideas that govern our thinking, behavior, self image...
For me, Michangelo's Sistine Chapel as well as the Lord's Prayer...have 'God' isolated far away on a cloud fixated on Adam... hard for me to move beyond that... as far as core ideas governing my behavior....I hope Jesus' Golden Rule governs my behavior....as least that is the goal.

I think I am going to have to get the book. My concept of God is that of a close friend, patient teacher and counselor. He waits for me to come, never asks where I have been, and is the most fantastic teacher surprising me with answers and images when I least expect it. The core idea governing my behavior is my responsibility to live as authentically as possible sharing where I am in my journey with God and what he is patiently teaching me. Sharing my screw ups are not to be omitted.
Fascinating...how did you become 'friendly' with God???? Divinity to me is totally ferocious & distant & judgemental & cold.
Great question, Debbie. I don't think our church schooling adequately addressed the question of "how" to become "friendly" with God. The message of Christ was revolutionary - He taught his followers to think of God as the "loving father". Sometimes I have trouble reconciling the "old testament" portrayal of God to Christ's message. However, the Psalms certainly presents a caring, loving, compassionate perspective. Willard even suggests that we should carefully study the Psalms.
I feel closest to God when I am surrounded by the beauty of nature, and/or I am among like-minded (or rather like-hearted) people. I often forget how important it is to continue to do things to nurture and feed my own soul. Reading, Practicing "mindfulness" or "prayerfulness" is also very helpful. I truly believe that God talks to us through nature, through our friends, and through our hearts (a sense of knowing).
Judy- Your current home seems so attuned to nature & the seasons...as opposed to the concrete & airconditioning of Hokua...So important to be able to hear the vibes of nature...do you have many birds??
